Exciting weekend ahead...

Well our original plan for Mother's Day was to go to either California or Washington for the weekend. We have been itching to use our free flight benefits because we haven't flown since before Jarem's tube surgery. We had two excellent reasons to travel this weekend and surprisingly, Mother's Day wasn't it

On Tuesday, my Uncle Mark underwent open heart surgery. This surgery came as a shock to us for many reasons. One, he is only 36 years old! (Actually 35 until next week, Happy early Birthday!) Secondly, we never knew there was anything wrong with his heart. As it turns out, he had a large hole in his heart and the large valve to the aorta was completely damaged. They think it is something he has had since birth that just went undetected. That alone is shocking to me because my Uncle Mark is one of the fiercest athletes I've ever known! He's the reason I wore #22 in basketball. I still remember going to his football games on Friday nights and begging to wear his stinky and sweaty helmet as soon as the game was over. hehe Well, the surgery went very well and aside from being bored in the hospital room, he is doing good. Thanks to everyone who knew about the surgery and was sending prayers. His wife and three kids can't wait to have him home again. We were thinking of visiting them this weekend but after the visitors they've had all week, we instead planned to go to Washington.

Eric's grandma was supposed to come to town for Jarem's birthday. She booked the ticket a while back and was so excited to come down and enjoy the heat. Well the day before she was supposed to leave, she was at the doctor's office when she tripped. She fell and broke her femur. INSANE! That's the long bone in your thigh and the largest bone in the human body I must note. Well she ended up having surgery to get it fixed and is now in a care facility to help her rehab and get back to full strength. Grandma is so strong and smart. She knows what she has to do and is pushing herself to get better each day. She is so amazing and inspiring even at 79 years old. We wanted to go visit her this weekend and see all of Eric's family for Mother's Day but after a family consultation, it has been decided that more than anything else, grandma needs rest.

With both of our trips being cancelled, we were still feeling the itch to do something fun for Mother's Day. Our plan was to try and find a hotel in town for Saturday night so that we could swim and get out of the house. I ended up getting us a room at the Doubletree Paradise Valley Resort in Scottsdale. It looks really nice and their pools are calling our names! We plan to make full use of all the fun pool clothes and toys that Jarem got for his birthday. Can't wait to blog more about our fun weekend next week. For now, we're just counting down the hours until check-in time. :) Happy Mother's Day to all the mommys that read our blog. Hope you have a special weekend with your family and loved ones, too.
