WA Vacation Days 5 and 6 -- Appointments and Olympia fun

Tuesday morning I went to see an orthodontist and get my permanent retainer removed. I got a permanent retainer put in when I got my braces off and my orthodontist went out of business shortly after. My retainer had been bent at some point and was resting on my gums. No fun! I had been wanting to get it removed for some time and we finally got it taken care of. Dr. De Jesus was awesome and not only took it out but got me a replacement by the week’s end. I rode the segway all the way to the appointment (about 3 miles) and although fun, it was too cold. I wasn’t layer up or prepared enough for the morning cold so I called Eric to pick me up and drive me back home after the appointment was over.

Later that afternoon we got massages at the massage spa next to Rose and Gary’s house. Now this is something you will rarely hear from me, but I really didn’t enjoy my massage. The pressure was too hard for my liking and even though I asked her to go lighter, I was incredibly sore by the end of the massage. I ended up staying sore for the next couple of days and felt like I had bruises all over my body from being rubbed so hard. Kind of a bummer…

That evening we went to meet Eric’s family for dinner in Tacoma at Cloverleaf Pizza. Kacia’s fiancĂ©’s daughter Anna was having a birthday party and they had the entire back room reserved. It was nice seeing all of Kacia’s friends again and being there for Anna’s party. Kacia and Chris are getting married in just a few more weeks and we are so excited for their wedding!!

Grandma had fun sitting next to Jarem.Birthday girl Anna is on the left.

Wednesday we had brunch in Olympia with Eric’s step-brother Mica and his girlfriend Michelle. We went to this place called Darby’s and although the food was really good, the look of the place was somewhat different. People in Olympia can be considered bohemian by some definitions and that is what we encountered at Darby’s. Very different looking people but overall friendly and good service. The food was really good! Jarem fell asleep while we were eating so Eric walked home from the restaurant and Jarem slept in his stroller. What a good daddy!

After brunch we met some friends at the Olympia Children’s Museum for a play date. Jarem and Samara had so much fun playing there! Samara was almost two and they were so adorable together. We had fun catching up with Lillian and meeting their newest little angel, Sofia.

Peek-a-boo!What a sweet hug!Samara and Jarem loved playing with the beans! They were so cute next to eachother with their matching curly hair.Love these pictures! We tried to get one of them kissing but the angle wasn't right. This one is really cute, too. This is one of those boards where you push the pins in and it makes your reflection on the other side. This is Jarem! Can't you tell by the thumb in his mouth?? heheWalking out to the cars hand in hand.

That evening Rose and Gary put Jarem to bed for me and Eric so we could get out for a little evening date. We took the segways and rode around Capitol Lake. We got so many comments about the segways and had so much fun being out in the evening but still having it be light out. This picture was taken around 8pm. Crazy how light it still was! When we got back to the house, we of course watched So You Think You Can Dance, our favorite TV show.

WA Vacation Days 3 and 4 -- Pop Pop and Birthday Dinner

Sunday we had a slow start to the day and took a while to get out the door. When we finally got moving we hit really bad traffic on our way to meet Eric’s dad for lunch. After fighting some bad traffic we finally made it to Salty’s at Redondo Beach in South Seattle. We sat out on the patio and were right over the water. It was such an amazing view and the food was really good!! Next to Salty’s was a pier so we went over there and took some pictures. It was so much fun getting to meet up with Eric’s dad and have Jarem spend time with his Pop-Pop. That evening we played our nightly game of Five Crowns (BEST CARD GAME EVER!) and I think that’s the evening I won. Hehe

Monday we spent the day running errands and getting ready for a family birthday dinner that evening. In the afternoon we took Jarem to a walk-in clinic to get his ears checked. This flight to Washington was his first since he got his tubes put in in February. When we landed he started tugging in his ears and was still tugging on them by Monday. So playing things safe we took him to the walk-in clinic to be sure he wasn’t having any problems. Luckily everything looked perfect and we were on our way again. For dinner we made homemade tacos. Rose has a tortilla press so she and Eric made homemade tortillas. We had another amazing feast with all the family over. Kacia, Chris, Jill, Hector, Grandma, Linda, Rose, Gary, Eric, Jarem and I all had so much to eat and lots of fun! It was Jill’s birthday that Wednesday so we had all her favorites including funfetti cake and rainbow sherbet ice cream. After dinner we all took turns riding the segways. Most of Eric’s cousins hadn’t ridden them before so it was fun riding around. Grandma sat upstairs by the window and watched all of us as we went by and waved up to her. It was a really fun evening and so nice to be with all of Eric’s family.

Eric chopping onions. That's my nerd! hehe Snuggy boy...Singing Happy Birthday to our cousin Jill.Birthday girl playing with Jarem.Go Kacia! On guard! He looks like he's practicing his fencing here. Ahh... Can't wait for their wedding!!Jarem looking up at Grandma in the window. " HI GRANDMA!""Sdat?!?" Jarem's constant phrase to Mia and any other dog he sees.Hello Speed Demon! Aunt Linda was great on the Segway!

WA Vacation Days 1 and 2 -- Arrive and 4th of July

We had the BEST vacation to Washington from July 3-July 13. SO NICE! We started our vacation a little rocky with not being able to catch a flight out since we fly stand-by. My mom came down to the airport and hung out with us to give us an extra hand with Jarem. But Rose was generous and used her miles to buy us a flight out of Phoenix. We had so many bags and Eric’s bike box was so big that we actually needed two cars just to get our luggage home from the airport. So Aunt Linda and Rose met us at the airport in separate cars. We were so happy to be there and see them! We stopped at Burgerville (fast food burger place) on our way to Olympia and enjoyed a nice lunch together. That evening we hung out at Rose’s house and had dinner out on the balcony at their house. Everyone enjoyed fresh seafood (except me and Jarem of course) and soaked in the amazing weather!

Saturday, July 4th was one of my favorite days of all time! We had such an amazing day! In the morning Grandma and Grandpa Gary were ready to play with Jarem! Gary even made Jarem a Mickey Mouse pancake. So cute... After that, Eric decided to start his training for the big bike ride he had coming up that next weekend. So Eric and Gary jumped on the tandem bicycle and rode from Olympia to Tacoma. It was about 55 miles and SO HOT! Hot there is different from Arizona because of the humidity. But they had a nice ride and made it to grandma’s house safely. While they were riding their bikes, Rose, Jarem and I drove over to Eric’s grandma’s house and visited with grandma. Then I snuck out for about an hour and went down to the Tacoma waterfront to get some pictures of the air show. This was my first ever air show and I didn’t have the best view but I definitely had fun! We’ll have to go to the one here at Luke Air Force base one of these years. I’m sure Jarem will enjoy that when he gets older.

After the air show I went back to grandma’s and we all piled in the car and headed over to Aunt Linda’s house. She had planned a BBQ for all of us. We had SO MUCH GOOD FOOD! She made everything from ribs to homemade fruit salad. YUMMY!!! We ate in the backyard and had so much fun. Jarem loved running around in her beautiful yard and it was such a nice afternoon.
Nap time... Jarem, Gary and Grandma all napped. I was jealous! After hanging out in the yard for a few hours, Eric and I headed back to the Tacoma waterfront. Rose and Gary took Jarem home for bedtime since the fireworks there don’t start until 10:00pm. They start so late cause that’s when it gets dark in the summertime. It is nice having such long days! We went to the Freedom Fair at the Tacoma waterfront and walked around and had so much fun. After getting our full of the Freedom Fair, we hiked up this massive hill (think streets in San Francisco) and met Aunt Linda, Eric’s cousin Kacia and her fiancĂ© Chris at their friend’s house. Their house is at the top of the hill and has the most amazing view! We had a perfect seat (in the middle of the street) and watched the amazing fireworks show. The fireworks there are so amazing. They are shot off a barge in the middle of the water. Across the water we saw other shows in the distance. Fourth of July in Washington is definitely a must-see.
This is the barge they shot the fireworks from.
